Presented by the Tampa Bay History Center, USCGC Tampa – Tampa’s Own – Pageantry, Protection & Patriotism is a 40 page full-color book retelling the almost-forgotten story about the United States Coast Guard Cutter Tampa and her courageous sailors. During World War I the ship was sunk off of the English coast while protecting convoys from German submarine attacks. All 131 aboard were lost and many of them were “Tampa’s Own”
We have brought this story to life with a highly visual design incorporating a mixed media of rare photos, paintings, songs, and other memorabilia to modern day Google Maps and how the Tampa continues her service today. This book will be taught in all of Hillsborough County’s Public School 11th grade American History classes and will be distributed to all requesting private schools. Printed on Porcelain Silk Cover and text pages, with a vellum fly sheet overlay inside each book. Saddle stitch. Printed materials also included a Teacher Guide.
